Ashby MCP server: setup, tools and limits

    The short answer

Ashby’s MCP server has been in open beta since 29 June 2026 and is included on every Ashby plan except Analytics-only. An Org Admin turns it on under Admin → Organization Setup → Opt-In Features. Elevated Access users then connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini CLI or another MCP tool to https://mcp.ashbyhq.com/mcp/v1 with their own Ashby login. It can read candidates, applications, jobs, interviews, offers and pipelines. It can also create candidates, draft notes for you to confirm, move applications between stages and consider a candidate for another job. It can’t create jobs, schedule interviews or send emails.

Every Ashby detail comes from Ashby’s own documentation, read on 1 October 2026. Beatview is not affiliated with Ashby.

    Step 1

What an Org Admin sets up in Ashby

Ashby has one switch, and access then follows each user’s Ashby permissions.

    1. 01

      Step 01

      Turn on MCP Server

An Org Admin goes to Admin → Organization Setup → Opt-In Features and turns on MCP Server.
    2. 02

      Step 02

      Users connect their own account

Elevated Access users connect their own Ashby account from their AI tool. Each one sees only the records their Ashby permissions allow.
    3. 03

      Step 03

Reconnect Slack, if you use it

Since August 2026 the Ashby Slack app can use MCP. Existing installs need to reconnect to grant the mcp:connect permission.
    Step 2

Connect Ashby to your AI assistant

Steps from Ashby’s documentation. Every client uses the same server address.

    Claude

    1. Open Customize → Connectors and search for Ashby.
    2. Connect it, then choose Approve in Ashby’s access window.

Claude: on Team and Enterprise, an Owner enables the connector for the organization first, and each person still signs in to Ashby individually.

    ChatGPT

    1. Open ChatGPT’s settings and search for Ashby among the apps (Ashby’s guide says Settings → Apps).
    2. Connect it and approve access in Ashby.

ChatGPT renames its menus from time to time; OpenAI’s help centre has the current path.

    Cursor

    1. Add a new MCP server in Cursor’s settings or mcp.json: {"mcpServers":{"ashby":{"url":"https://mcp.ashbyhq.com/mcp/v1"}}}
    2. Save and restart Cursor. Sign-in runs the first time a tool is used.

    Gemini CLI

    1. Run: gemini mcp add --transport http ashby https://mcp.ashbyhq.com/mcp/v1
    2. Run /mcp reload, then /mcp list to check the tools.
    What it can do

What Ashby’s MCP server can read and change

Ashby documents 17 tools, including a helper the assistant uses itself, a product-docs search and a feedback tool.

What Ashby documents for AI assistants
    AreaReadChange
CandidatesSearch by name; full profile with resume, interview feedback, emails, texts, notes, transcripts, referrals and form submissionsCreate a candidate; add or reply to a note, drafted for you to confirm
Applications and pipelineFilter applications; candidate counts by stage; your pending tasksChange an application’s stage; consider a candidate for another job (a new application at the first stage)
Jobs and postingsJobs, job postings and openingsNot documented
Interviews and feedbackYour upcoming interviews, interview prep briefings and interview plans; the scorecards you submittedNot documented
    OffersOffersNot documented

Not documented, so plan without it

    • Creating or editing jobs
    • Scheduling interviews
    • Sending emails: Ashby’s app-directory listings mention it, but its documentation lists no email tool
    • Archiving or rejecting candidates with a dedicated tool
    • Showing other interviewers’ scorecards through get_submitted_feedback, which returns only your own
    Limits and security

Ashby MCP limits, permissions and audit

    Limits to know

    • It is an open beta. Ashby says tool inputs and outputs may change without notice and recommends its public API for a stable contract.
    • 120 requests a minute per token, and 120 tool-budget units a minute per user and organization; filter_records costs 2 units.
    • It isn’t available to Analytics-only organizations.
    • Ashby’s CEO warns that AI analysis of recruiting metrics can be confidently wrong, and recommends Ashby’s own reports for figures you must rely on.

    Permissions and audit

    • It authenticates as you and inherits your Ashby permissions, so it can’t return records you can’t already see.
    • Each user completes their own sign-in, and queries are scoped to that user’s session.
    • Notes are drafted for you to confirm, and Ashby says you can require approval before any action runs.
    • Ashby keeps audit logs of changes to important records, provided on request rather than in the product. MCP-specific logging isn’t documented.
    Use cases

    Questions from Ashby’s own examples

Taken from Ashby’s documentation and launch posts.

    • “How many candidates are in the interview stage for the Sales role?”
    • “Did this candidate mention anything about relocation?”
    • “What interviews do I have this week?”
    • “How is the pipeline looking for the Engineering roles?”
    • “What do I need to do today?”
    • “Which scorecards do I still owe?”
    Add screened candidates

Ashby gives your assistant the records. Beatview adds the screening.

Ashby’s MCP server lets an assistant read and update your Ashby records. Beatview’s MCP server adds screening before anyone’s first call: every applicant scored against your criteria with the reasons shown, and a structured AI video interview assessed answer by answer. Connect both and one assistant can line up Beatview’s evidence with the pipeline in Ashby.

    One address

Add https://platform.beatview.ai/mcp to Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Cursor, next to Ashby. It is included on every Beatview plan, including Free.

    Evidence, not just records

Beatview returns each applicant’s resume match score with reasons and a structured AI interview assessed answer by answer.

    You stay in charge

The assistant confirms with you before moving a candidate or sending an interview invitation, and recordings never leave Beatview.

    Try with both connected

    • “Which Sales candidates scored above 80 in the Beatview interview, and where are they in the Ashby pipeline?”
    • “Brief me on Jordan Lee: the Beatview interview assessment and the notes in Ashby.”
    • “Who completed the Beatview interview this week but is still in the first stage in Ashby?”
